Step into the golden era of American railroading at . Cardigan Junction a large HO scale model railroad designed to capture the look, sound, and operations of this unforgettable era in.
Our layout stretches 60 feet in length with over 400 feet of mainline, operated with DCC sound-equipped locomotives and Digitrax walkaround throttles for realistic, hands-on operation. From freight drags across the countryside to yard switching jobs and passenger service, every session is built to run like the prototype.
The movement of trains is coordinated by a dispatcher, who controls switches and signals from a fully functioning CTC board, just as it was done on the prototype Milwaukee Road. This allows for authentic, timetable-driven operations where every crew has a real job to do.
But Cardigan Junction is more than just a model railroad—it’s a team project. We’re bringing the history of the Milwaukee Road to life in miniature, and we invite fellow enthusiasts to join us. Whether you’re interested in operations, scenery building, or simply love the modelling, there’s a role for you here.

A lot of work is being carried out on the RFID project by Andy and Alex. We have now installed Six readers at Green Duck Yard and six at Cardigan Junction the rest are in the staging yards. Around 150 cars tagged.
Andy has now fired up the impressive system which displays the location of all the cars and trains. This info can be picked up on mobile phones and tablets,
and saves a lot of paperwork.
We are looking forward to implementing this as soon as it is fully functional

This will extend the layout to 60ft and add anothe 100ft to the mainline.
Below The redevelopment of the Southern end of Cardigan Junction has permitted the addition of a Walthers 110ft electric turntable. and brewery sidings. The screen is a repeater of the computor screen.
The Dispatchers panel is now one of our two major projects on the layout although it is up and running tracking trains around the layout, we have now added point control to the passing loops along the main line. There are a couple of cameras to keep an eye on the staging yards.
